Back in late September 1st Graders joyfully harvested the sunflower seeds that had flourished so well earlier in the summer. They same group of children performed the exact same task back in September 2014 when they were in kindergarten and kept the seeds safe over the winter months. When it came to plant them again in spring 2015 , to our horror all the seeds had gone mouldy! This was an excellent lesson for all of us to make sure the seeds were completely dry before we harvested and stored them. This year we were much more careful about when we harvested the heads - I took them home to dry and store until the seeds were ready to be popped out of the heads.
As you can see there was much fun to be had in dissecting these fabulous sunflower heads!
